SMW Hiking Club's mission is to promote the love of the great outdoors and California’s natural spaces through off-campus hiking excursions, overnight camping trips and promoting environmental awareness on campus. Club members learn how to travel safely in wilderness areas, trail etiquette, the 10 essentials and how our actions affect our environment near and far. On campus the club runs a Recycling program and the Clean Campus Campaign.  Hiking Club is sponsored by the Angeles ICO group of the Sierra Club, which provides bus transportation, and trained Sierra Club Leaders who are CPR & First Aid certified, & background checked. Leaders encourage members to try new things such as balancing on logs, kayaking, crossing streams, and work to build student confidence in the outdoors. Yearly club trips usually include a desert camping trip, service trip at Bolsa Chica Wetlands, hiking Eaton Canyon and Topanga Canyon, and a cabin trip to Catalina Island.
